18 Feb Event Childcare: From a Wedding and Event Planner’s Perspective
We find that some brides do want to include children as guests at both their wedding ceremony and reception. There may be large families on the guest list from both the bride’s and the groom’s side. To exclude the children would not be considered. If that is true for you, know that children can add an extra dimension to the festivities if you make plans to incorporate their interests. If children are welcome at your wedding and reception, be sure to let the parents know they are invited by including their names on the inner envelope of the invitation. Some brides create a separate reception invitation sent directly to the invited children.
There are three reasons to hire childcare for your wedding.
1) The convenience for your guests so that they can enjoy your wedding fully, without worrying about their children.
2) Safety. Weddings can be a hazardous place for children to be. There are many dangerous things that can happen when children are unattended at a wedding. Falling down stairs, getting tripped over by wait staff, wandering off, playing with electric sockets, or candles, and on and on the list goes…not to mention the many times I’ve a seen a child approach a wedding cake table unattended?!)
3) For the sake of the child. Let’s face it – children aren’t exactly thrilled to be at a wedding. They would much rather enjoy themselves with kid-friendly entertainment, food they enjoy and a safe environment for them to play without getting into trouble. For these reasons, it is important to make plans for children during your wedding.
To entertain the children, plan to set up a separate reception area and hire an entertainment childcare company to watch over the children. When you hire a professional service to tend to the children, they will know exactly what to do. For instance, they may set up an arts and crafts room with crayons, markers, or craft projects.
The child care company, such as Kid Care Anywhere, can be sure to provide smocks or aprons to protect their clothing. The children can make crafts for their parents, or even make special cards for the bride and groom. Some brides arrange for a special kid friendly menu served at a separate area.
The other option is to have the children eat with their parents if that is preferred or at a special kids section/table in the reception area. The childcare company can even theme a fun kids dining table. Some brides have their caterer prepare a special box lunch which contains kid’s favorites, or offer kid friendly meals such as spaghetti, chicken fingers, burgers, fries or pizza.
After crafts and dinner, the children can engage in more entertainment. Some parents may want to invite their children to join them on the dance floor while it’s still early. The childcare company can provide many forms of entertainment for the children to engage in to keep them occupied and entertained for the duration of the evening including books, games, movies and more.
If yours is an evening wedding with dancing, you may wish to be sure that the children’s area has cots or sleeping bags available for children who may be there through the evening hours. Children can have a good time and free their parents to participate fully in the wedding if you hire someone who will take the time creating a special area and activities especially for them.
